A proud Métis living on her Nation’s home territory, Jayme is a mother, lawyer, athlete, coach, and community advocate, who relentlessly uses sport as a vehicle for social change.

During her five years of studying sciences at the University of Winnipeg, Jayme played multiple positions on her university volleyball team, three years of which she served as team captain. She proceeded to pursue law and has been working with and for Indigenous communities in a variety of capacities ever since, one of which was with the National Inquiry in to Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people.

Jayme has been coaching for 19 years. She has represented Manitoba multiple times as an athlete and a coach, most recently in 2017 at the North American Indigenous Games in Toronto, and the Canada Games in Winnipeg where her team won Gold. For a fourth consecutive cycle, she has been once again named the head coach of the Manitoba volleyball team that will attend the 2023 North American Indigenous Games.

Off the court, Jayme is a certified facilitator for the National Aboriginal Coaching Module – a course that, among other things, offers tactics to apply traditional teachings and address racism in sport contexts. Despite the Coronavirus pandemic, she trained more than 50 coaches in this course in 2021. Jayme has also served as President on both the Volleyball Manitoba and Manitoba Aboriginal Sport and Recreation boards, through which she was able to affect change at a policy level.

Megan has been involved with Agoojin since 2019 as well as supporting the volleyball program at Canadian Mennonite University for just as long. Megan completed the Aborignal Coaching Module and was a setter as a player.
Megan fills her cup by cooking and feeding people with her love for food and also enjoys DIY projects.

Tristan is Red River Metis, actively working on reconnecting to his roots. Tristan helped get Agoojin off the ground in 2018 and helps support the behind the scenes work at the club.  Tristan tries to get outside as much as possible.

Chloe Friesen was born and raised in Morden, Manitoba, and is of Mennonite heritage. She had the joy of playing volleyball for the CMU Blazers for 5 years, while studying communications. Chloe currently works as an associate producer/technician for CBC Manitoba. She’s passionate about people, storytelling, building community, and crafts!

Brooke is a member of Sagkeeng First Nation and lives in Winnipeg, Mb.

Brooke’s main position was libero when she played and has now taken on the role of coaching.

Renee is from Fisher River Cree nation. Renee has played volleyball from grade 7 till grade 12, and currently works at the Fisher River Highschool as an Educational Assistant. Renee volunteers their time coaching volleyball, hockey and softball.

I’ve coached one year of club volleyball, I also run volleyball programs in my community such as youth development nights & host tournaments.

Rayvn grew up on a farm just outside Morden, Manitoba. Rayvn was introduced to volleyball when they were 10 years old and then played competitively for many years, including six years at Brandon University! Now they like to participate in anything that keeps those competitive juices flowing which includes (but is not limited to!) rec league volleyball, golfing, and coaching with Agoojin.

2S Red River Métis, living in and out between Winnipeg and the Whiteshell Provincial Park. Ky played on the 2017 Jeux de la Francophonie Canadienne Team and for a season with Universite de Saint Boniface. Ky spends most of their time nowadays with their horses and working as a part time tattoo artist in the city. Being creative always plays a big part in Ky’s daily life and they are so excited to share that part with their community.   Bonus fact: A quote Ky lives by is “What belongs to me, will find me”

Jenna is a Metis and will be the head coach of the u16 Agoojin team. Jenna recently graduated from Universite de Saint Boniface, with a bachelors of Social Work degree. Jenna has played volleyball since she was 12, and has received a few provincial and national all-star awards throughout my club and university volleyball career.  Jenna is very passionate about volleyball, and she is looking forward to working with players to help them find their own passion and love for the sport!

Tammy is originally from Grand Rapids, Manitoba. After graduating high school, Tammy moved to Winnipeg to further her education at the Canadian Mennonite University.  Tammy played 4 years with the Women’s team at CMU, while Jayme Menzies was the head coach. Tammy is finishing up her final year at CMU with a Psychology degree and will be graduating in April. Fun Fact: Tammy is a former Agoojin athlete!

Jani is franco-métis born and raised in St. Boniface here in Winnipeg. She played volleyball all throughout high school for her school and club. Jani is currently in her last year of her undergrad at St. Boniface University studying sciences. Fun fact… Jani didn’t speak a word of English until grade four! “I’m so glad to be apart of the Agoojin family!”

Annikah attends the Canadian Mennonite University and plays on the women’s volleyball team. Annikah is part of the Red River Metis community and grew up in Steinbach, Mb.

DaDana is Dene/Inuit and originally from the Northwest Territories. Dana now lives in Winnipeg, Mb and works for University of Manitoba in Accounts Payable. She played volleyball throughout high school and is now looking forward to coaching another season on Agoojin.

Rachel Bach is an Indigenous artist, midwife, and mother.

She is from Akisq’nuk First Nation located in ktunaxa territory (Southeast British Columbia) but grew up in Treaty 4 Manitoba.

Since childhood, Rachel always knew she wanted to help others but was unsure where she could fit best. Once Rachel learned that the Indigenous community was looking for more Indigenous representation in midwifery, she went back to school to study healthcare. She has since graduated from the University of Manitoba and is a certified and practicing midwife.

Rachel did not always have a huge passion for art but she took an art class at university and realized what an impact art can have in relaying stories, expressing feelings, and impacting others. She started experimenting with different art techniques and fell in love with digital art.

Her artwork for the Agoojin website was created to convey a sense of community and support. Raspberries represent protection, community, growth, and togetherness. They grow beautiful and strong by surrounding and supporting one another. The graphic design also shows the different phases a raspberry plant goes through before reaching maturity.

I was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba and a proud member of the Manitoba Métis Federation. Having a direct lineage to Cuthbert Grant through my grandfather and cousins to the Riel family through my grandmother. I attended the University of Winnipeg for a couple years before transitioning to acting, and just wrapped a show called “Skymed” airing in September; Beading is medicine, and I’m so happy I can play a small part in the amazing work you’re all doing 🙂
